Fellowship of the Ring. All the Lord of the Rings movies are great, but there are definitely some iffy parts in the latter two (especially Return of the King), but, goddamn, Fellowship of the Ring is freaking perfect.
Agreed. It's got most of my favorite moments in the series, and none of my least favorite.

On that topic, An Unexpected Journey is my favorite Hobbit movie. I'm one of a handful of people who genuinely liked it, lol. Because they were stretching the plot so much, the other two devolved into generic, drawn-out fantasy-action movies; worse, they had bad action. That scene of Legolas Mario-hopping up the falling stones haunts my nightmares, and I want to strangle whoever's idea it was to turn all the movie dragons into wyverns.

Do the MCU Avengers titles count? Like, not the series as a whole, but just the Avengers movies? Sure, Infinity War/Endgame are bigger than the 2012 Avengers (Age of Ultron's kind of on the same level, stakes-wise), but I gotta go with the OG. That goes for the MCU as a whole, really, not counting The Hulk; the original Iron Man is at the very least one of my favorites in the entire series.

...Actually, for movies at least, it'd be easier to list the series where I don't prefer the first entry, lol. Games and books get a lot murkier, since games often (not always) improve on the formula in subsequent entries, and a lot of book series are enormous.

For games, Xenosaga, definitely. (Not counting Xenogears.) The second game was terrible and the third was good but the plot felt scattered and poorly paced. Understandable, considering it was envisioned as a six-part series and the creator/director stepped down after the first game, but sad.

I can't actually think of any book series where my favorite is the first. Kind of strange, really, since the beginning of the journey is usually one of my favorite parts.
