I get they want the games to be accessible to toddlers, but I've never understood why they kept all the insanely micromanagy mechanics if they weren't going to try to appeal to the people that use them. If you don't want to make a game with some difficulty, why bother even keeping those mechanics in the first place? Just make the mechanics ultra simple if you want the series to be babby's first RPG every gen rather than give people lingering hope that you'll add some extra options for a more robust game.
