My guess is that Geralt and Yennefer will have a much larger role in terms of politics influencing the war. As you probably know, they are nearly irrelevant in that aspect in the original story. And that's very important in terms of theme.

But the portrayal of Nilfgaard might be my least favorite change.

I'm only a few episodes into Season 2 and haven't read the books, however I am about half way through The Witcher 3 game, and one thing I really liked about the game is that niether the Nilfgaard empire nor the Northern Kingdoms are the good guys/bad guys. There are good people on both sides, but most people on both sides are ass holes and Geralt doesn't really care about either one winning. Is that how the books are? Seems like the show is making Nilfgaard into something like Mordor, the clear evil doers.
