The absurd stability of the alpha particle constrains everything else. There is no stable isotope at mass numbers 5 or 8, and everything past 62 is theoretically susceptible to alpha decay.

Bismuth only became "unstable" in 2012, and its half-life is so absurdly long that it's irrelevant. Probably two bismuth atoms on earth decayed to thallium today.
