By that time, you have probably payed off your house and saved enough that you don't have to work while raising them. Now instead of needing a "work-life balance" you can devote all your time to your children in the years they need you to the most. If I ever have kids, it won't be until I am at least in my 50's. --- After 16 years, I have decided my signature will NOT be about my job!
