Would many administrations have the vision to invest colossal sums of taxpayers' money in a project that's so long term, they would have no hope of reaping any political rewards from it? How genuinely interested are politicians -- who hold the federal purse strings -- in blue sky research? Or am I just being a jaded old cynic? Why rely on NASA or government?
