No, but there are potential technologies that get a lot closer to it, and - especially for an unmanned mission - let's say, even 10 or 15 years, is not a particularly unrealistic length of time to spend on it.

We don't need to break the lightspeed barrier though. Even getting close to the speed of light is more reasonable than our current technology.

Like if we launched something comparable to the New Horizons spacecraft, it would take over 80,000 years to reach the planets in this article. That's not a "potential visit" lol

Then there's the politics of funding the required technological breakthrough. Would many administrations have the vision to invest colossal sums of taxpayers' money in a project that's so long term, they would have no hope of reaping any political rewards from it? How genuinely interested are politicians -- who hold the federal purse strings -- in blue sky research? Or am I just being a jaded old cynic?

A manned mission would require 20-30 years worth of food roundtrip. Most a spaceship can handle now is 2 years' worth.

i wouldnt say never, but certainly not in our lifetime. Heck, Voyager 1 is only 14.5 million miles away, while 2 is 12 million miles. Both were launched in 1977.

The effect of Proxima ds gravity is so small that it only causes Proxima Centauri to move back and forth at around 40 centimetres per second (1.44 kilometres per hour).

It's so mind boggling that we can measure things like this in a region that far away.
