80% of women do not have IC. The number is closer to 12% according to wikipedia (and that's just "symptoms")

And she drinks like once every other month due to the flares. We rarely have sex, and it takes her being super wasted to actually enjoy it 90% of the time anymore.

So her life completely sucks because of the disease.... How did your wife's surgery help? We have been looking into it as an option for awhile now.

Lets agree to disagree on the statistics.

I was mistaken. My wife was originally diagnosed with endometriosis. She had surgey to remove a plum sized cyst on her ovary. IC often goes misdiagnosed for endometriosis. After the surgery when she was still experiencing a lot of pain it became clear to the doctors that it was infact IC. She has had pretty good results with Elmiron. I do not know what your g/f is on but perhaps you want to look into it.

From what you explain of the sex and the drinking and what nots there is no doubt that its IC (not that i think you are lying about her condition). I am sorry for what she is going through.

I apologize for thinking that you were lying, but as Tim stated there were just a lot of inconsistencies with what you were saying. But you seem to be telling the truth.

Anyway, she is currently on Elmiron, which helps with the flaring, but not the side effects of IC. The IC went untreated for a long time, so she also wound up developing vulvodynia, which is why she needs the xanax and why sex is painful for her.

Did your wife have any surgery to repair the IC? I know it's experimental, but I have heard of good results.
