As a boss, I would hope people would come to me with issues like that. It is a business. "Being a snitch" is not a bad thing on business levels. If complaints are accurate, damaging productivity and creating an unfair environment, I would hope it wouldn't go unnoticed to me.

The only person that snitching hurts is the offender, and it does nothing but help improve the rest of the business. I really hate bad employees, Vlado, but if you want to defend them, well then good for you.

If I was in the boss' position, while I'd check the complaint, the snitch would certainly get some kind of punishment (explicit or not), as well. I quite dislike people like that. If you want to advance, get better pay, etc., you should do it through your own work and merits, not through bringing others down in front of the management.

Also, what SBell described is an extreme case where your line of thinking might apply, but you have no clue what a "bad employee" is. Someone who gets his work done in an hour and is on Facebook the rest of the time is a way better employee than someone who "works", but gets nothing done all day.
