Really depends on the sort of person. In regards to high school, most people I've known were legitimately smart. There certainly were a few exceptions, though. Those tended to be the types that weren't necessary smart so much as obsessively hard workers; those who would spend 2 hours every night on each AP Physics and Calculus assignment and ridiculous amounts of time freaking out about every test.
