It takes surprisingly little time to start doing a decent amount of pull-ups. I got a bar to put in my doorway several months ago and I could barely do 10 at first. Just a few weeks later, after finally trying to go for a max, I blew my record away trying to go for 30.
I stopped at 25, though.
