Snorlax is a bear!? I thought it was a fat cat!!

Me too, but Bulbapedia says it's a bear. Then again, they didn't list Washibon (Japanese Rufflet) as being inspired by Washington, so who knows?

Why would a pokeblock that expands, ignoring the obvious scientific flaws, to 300 KG, EVER be useful or worth spending time making except for the f*** of it? Like, the only practical application.... well, hell, Snorlax is the ONLY Pokémon that could eat that without dying, assuming its vital organs don't get pushed aside by it. The only use for that Pokéblock for ANY other Pokémon would be killing it. So unless this is something Oak has spent tons of time on solely for the purpose of feeding Snorlax cheaply...

In complete fairness, it's possible Oak created pokeblocks that can expand to other sizes, and the 300 KG version is the largest one, used only for the likes of Snorlax and Wailord. But still, it implies that Snorlax was such a problem that Oak had to resort to such an insane idea to deal with it.
