Island Time
"I guess this is it. I just wish I had eaten a whole lot more candy."
Score: 4/10

Those are May's intended last words. This is canon.

The heroes and Team Rocket crash a plane into a tiny island surrounded by whirlpools, inhabited only by Robin. Robin used to be a traveling salesman for a multinational corporation, and yes, he looks exactly like Tom Hanks in Castaway and that his entire gimmick. He lives with a Wailmer that saved him years ago.

Ash is concerned: this means he can't join the Hoenn League. Yes, Ash is presented with the possibility of never escaping this tiny island, and his concern is pokemon. Well, you have to have priorities. Brock suggests they convert the airplane into a boat, instead of using the radio the plane must have because all planes need to have radios. Or hell, just write a note and attach it to Swellow's talon and tell it to find an Officer Jenny.

How do they plan to make fuel? By crushing coconut milk, of course. Well, they finish the boat after one day of work, and the next morning, Robin says goodbye to Wailmer. Max suggests he catch it, but Robin tells the heroes that he plans to live in a city, and what would Wailmer do there? He also laments that he's no longer certain the city even has anything for him now; as a salesman he was unsatisfied with life, but what else can he do?

Team Rocket steals the boat and Pikachu, but fails to realize that the boat hasn't been fueled yet, so they only succeed in getting it destroyed. They attack the heroes because what else would they do with their time? After losing the fight to Pikachu, Team Rocket gets annoyed and climbs onto Wailmer, which evolves for... some reason. Wailord blasts Team Rocket off, and with its huge size, it can easily carry all of the humans through the whirlpools. There's even a scene where a huge wave tries to knock them off of Wailord like the wave tried to knock Tom Hanks off of raft, but instead of getting over it by using guts and intelligence, Wailord just blasts it with an energy ball. That's how Castaway should have ended. Wailord finds a passing ship and drops the heroes off.

Robin can't say goodbye, so he decides to go back to the island because the city no longer has anything for him, he would just become an unsatisfied salesman again. Uh... you might at least want to say goodbye to your family, right? Right?

Right?
