Oh come now, Anna. The writers were oddly consistent with the typing (dis)advantages this episode, clearly expecting them to know about STAB is expecting too much. :P
It's not even that, just consider that Pikachu uses thunderbolt all the damn time, whereas Meowth probably does not.
