Streaming is the way of the future. Its a pretty basic fact that they caught on to.
Netflix had a pretty big hand in all but completely killing off store-based rental chains. They dont want the same to happen to them.
That's how they want to spin it, but the obvious reality is that they lost a lot of subscribers because of their decision to split the services, and now they gotta play damage control.

i actually put off subscribing to netflix at all until they had a no-disc option because i didnt want any damn discs
