'Desperately' was a bit too strong a word, but yes, we need the show.
Primarily for its effect at deterring potential sexual predators, moreso than its actual impact with law enforcement.
It deters potential sexual predators? Not enough to make a difference. We don't need the show, it's great for the hilarity some of these people bring. If the general public isn't aware by now that sexual predators can be anyone, anywhere... well then, yeah.
