I don't feel like there's a Big Three with a lot going for it in FFVIII, but that's just me.
Squall and Laguna are both pretty amazing to me. FFVIII doesn't have a really strong #3 though, admittedly, as far as someone who just captivates you.
I love Zell a whole lot, but at the end of the day, he's a secondary character who gets very little time in the spotlight.
(I actually like Rinoa a good bit, too, but don't tell anyone...!)
