It's one of those games that encourages you to explore and kind of do everything at your own pace. There's no real penalty for death, so a lot of the area's you normally wouldn't be allowed to go in for stupid rpg reasons "This cave isn't open yet! come back later!" are explorable and filled with terrible monsters that will kill you in seconds.
