Is Baldur's Gate II a direct sequel, or is it just the same 'lineage' of games as in the Final Fantasy and Elder Scrolls series? Do I need to play the first or can I jump straight to II?
It's a direct sequel, but jumping straight to 2 is a decent idea regardless. 1's pretty outdated, can turn newcomers off the series, and is just a good game rather than the masterpiece that BG2 is. I started with 2, and I'm pretty glad I did. It does a decent job of recapping 1's plot, anyway.
