I still haven't played BG2 and PT and my backlog is enormous, and 2. It's a direct sequel, but jumping straight to 2 is a decent idea regardless. 1's pretty outdated, can turn newcomers off the series, and is just a good game rather than the masterpiece that BG2 is.
