Because two sentences of dialogue is enough to determine how it will react to a vague phrase. I got most of the other Personas first try, but it's still a pain in the ass mechanic. If you get it wrong, all the enemies get back up and can wipe out your MC or be too weak to knock down again, or they just run away. The top left of the screen shows their personality when you're choosing who to talk to.
