Complaining about the tutorial section (which isn't bad at all, for a tutorial) sounds more like whining to me tbh. Or, conversely, all the "This game doesn't tell me anything! Why isn't there a tutorial!?" shit we'd be seeing if that part of the game had been removed.

I think there is some middle ground between holding the character's hand through the first six hours and not having a tutorial.

The reason I can't play most JRPGs nowadays is because they frequently railroad the player through the majority of the games and rely on poorly written characters and narratives and then dismiss people's complaints with some sort of appeal to ridicule where anyone who doesn't like it is just a mindless creten who doesn't understand storytelling.
