There are fucking things that have a production cost of literally 0 yet companies will enforce artificial scaricty. See: Limited availability skins in various games like Overwatch, Smite, etc.

WTF How does that even work?


Imagine a game had DLC, but you could only buy the DLC for one month, and after that they deleted it from the store. Everyone who bought it gets to keep it, but no one can ever buy it ever again.

Oh, I was thinking more literally along the lines of there being a limited number of downloads for the items. >_>

In Smite, they released a Skin called "Poolseidon" which was Poseidon in campy swimming pool gear. This was only ever distributed as a code physically printed on cards. First come first serve. Once all those cards got used up, they're gone forever.

Every so often someone whips out an unused card and tries to sell it for hundreds of dollars.
