1. Mace Windu practices Form VII, of which he is the last known user by the end of the Clone Wars. It incorporated both the light and the dark. Mace Windu managed to keep balance.

2. Anakin fell due to a number of factors. He had a strong tie with his mother Shmi, and her death, and his slaughter of the Sand People pushed him further in. His love for Padme gave Palpatine the fuel he needed, and gave him a self fullfilling vision, that he only realized far too late. Palpatine led him to think that he killed Padme in his anger. Even with Qui-Jon, I don't see much changing. Without Padme, he might not have ever fallen as that was the catalyst.
