It's a shame his original concept was racist and thus we'll never ~~see him in the films~~ (spoiler for Iron Man 3?) He's a mix of several interesting aspects. The cool powers of the rings, the Charles Atlas Superpower martial arts training, the fact that he's an honorable bad guy, the character flaw of his vanity causing him to burn through his riches in order to constantly improve himself...
