Not everything "canon" gets put into the final project for obvious reasons though, and there's no harm in her talking about the stuff that didn't since so many people love the series. Agreed, anyone that looks under the hood of the LOTR franchise sees that Tolkien had a multitude of stuff to choose from when it came time to put his books together. He had so much material written that his son just sits there an puts the pieces back together. People don't realize that writers do a lot of well writing and planning that may never get put into an novel because it may break the flow of the story or be seen as trivia non-sense.
