Disagree. Corporate meddling has always been a thing although, back when actors, etc, were treated as chattel, you had less creative interference from your workers. Actually, interference might have been worse back then since it was more common practice for studio heads, producers, directors, writers, etc, to insist that a girlfriend or mistress who couldn't act get a role in the film.

Today one of the problems might be focus-grouping and trying to target for mass appeal while making the rest of the film a little bland. At any rate, total creative control only really works when your creative person is actually good. For instance, Tommy Wiseau had a tremendous amount of creative control over The Room since he wrote, directed, and starred in it. However, nobody would call that a good movie. And there are tons of indie films just like it.
