I had a boss that would commit all sorts of fraud. Either by calling me in every day (which I hated, but I was a teenager and my parents were still able to force me to go) and in doing so he was going over on hours (while collecting his salary for the day and going home when I got there) or by returning defective second-hand products as new and giving the customer the new ones without processing a transaction (which was awesome for the consumer, but technically illegal). This is largely how his store maintained first place in the rankings...

It was annoying, but I didn't rat him out because he was a nice guy and treated me well. Then came the day he let me leave early (at close, rather than participating in it). He forgot to drop off the cash deposit (or was too lazy) and didn't put it in the safe (if there even was one). Rather than own up to his mistakes, he tries forcing a fake confession out of me with phony "proof" he has. My dad has held a bunch of federal law enforcement positions, and called bullshit on everything when I told him of the accusations, not to mention that I'd been with him in the yard the entire morning the theft occurred, in view of other witnesses.

As the line in Super Troopers goes, "desperation is a stinky cologne." He obviously knew it was his mistake and needed somebody to pin it on. Sadly for him, I didn't fall for his pathetic ruses and the district manager told me point-blank after the fact that I spent way too much money in the store and wasn't even a suspect (though the friendly rapport I had with him and the fact he hated my boss so much he made him cry once probably helped immensely). Everyone was to give their side of the story to both the DM and the lost prevention guy. If I hadn't been an attempted patsy, I'd have probably tried to spin things to help my boss, but that betrayal cut deep, especially as I'd known him for many years prior. I'm a fairly convincing writer, and what could have been "he was just being nice and let me go home early after a long day" ended up as "the night prior to the theft, I was dismissed earlier than usual. This had never happened previously and seemed suspicious" (true). I also felt it prudent to include every single ounce of dirt I had on him in my email, to ensure that my revenge was swift and merciless. Even if he somehow got away with the missing deposit, they were certain to investigate the other infractions, especially as the DM and LP guys both trusted me.

Long story continuously getting longer, he was on the hook for hundreds of dollars that had vanished due to his negligence and was, from what I was told second-hand, given the choice of being fired and losing his work visa (and summarily deported, leaving behind his wife and young child) or he could quit and absolve the company of paying him any severance (he had been there forever) and stay in the country. He apparently took the latter and I never saw him again. Rekt.

Epilogue: Just when we thought the mystery would never be solved, some gross meth addict was caught a couple of weeks later sneaking into the back room (where the deposit had been left and ripped open the next morning). The guy gave some lame excuse about being confused and then bolted. Nonetheless, the manager was supposed to take the deposit or drop it in a safe, he did neither, and had to fall on his own sword.
