The majority of people using this website are adults. Moderators take note.

The rules on this website should reflect that adults are the main ones posting on here.

1) That's not actually up to the moderators in any way. Their entire purpose is solely to enact the rules as established by corporate ownership via site administrators. If you want a paradigm shift in ToS implementation and enforcement, you'd have to go straight to the admins (who establish the rules), not the mods (who merely enforce them). It's essentially like blaming your local police because the federal government passes laws you disagree with.

2) The number of adults on the site is immaterial, because regardless of whether or not you believe this should be the case, the fact remains that the site allows anyone over the age of 12 to make accounts, which includes people who are legally minors in many countries - including the US, which is where the site's servers reside, which also determines which laws the site is subject to. Because the site itself is owned by a corporation that has a responsibility to protect itself from potential legal issues, they're more or less compelled to cover their ass in a number of ways, which is the motivation behind a lot of the more "family friendly" aspects of the ToU. The last thing the corporate overlords want is to have to fend off lawsuits from angry parents filed against a site that is probably only barely profitable these days anyway.

3) No one is actually forcing you to post here. If you find the rules as written and enforced so utterly draconian and unacceptable, there are literally thousands of social media alternatives out there just waiting for you.

The irony being, for all that people bitch about it, moderation on the site has loosened up quite a bit from where it was 10+ years ago, and things like profanity filters (to eliminate the need for across the board banned word flagging/automodding) are pretty clearly a significant effort to cater to older users while still covering them legally when it comes to younger users.

We should be allowed to communicate on these message boards as adults and not have to watch everything we say cause it might offend minors.

To be fair, we're kind of lucky they allow social boards at all on a video game site which was originally explicitly established for the sole purpose of posting FAQs, and which later expanded to including message boards for users to ask questions about specific games.

If anything, it's a miracle CJayC didn't eliminate social boards entirely and strictly enforce topicality after LUE became a phenomenal clusterfuck.

It is true we are almost all adults

Chronologically, sure. Though there's ample evidence to suggest that a massive percentage of users who at least legally qualify for "adulthood" fail pretty strongly when it comes to actually displaying anything resembling psychological or emotional maturity.

Perhaps tellingly, those also tend to be exactly the sorts of users who seem most likely to make topics bitching about moderation on the site, or complaining about how their last moderation was totally unfair and how much of an outrage it is that their free speech rights are being violated, etc etc.
