You shouldn't ever lose your job over something that happens on your own time. Unless you're in jail for a long time.


In principle? Sure, that sounds fair. In practice? That'd be inconvenient for employers who might be pressured to drop an employee who did something on their off-hours, leading to protests and boycotts. Plus you might find out something that an employee does during their off-hours that you don't want to be associated with.

And, excluding what they're handcuffed into doing by the government (or unions), employers can decide who they want to hire or keep.

The problem is his case never went before real cops, prosecutors, and judges -- where that determination can be made -- so he has this hanging over his head.
