No restrictions on length, though if you nominate an extended version that loops endlessly for hours, I'd probably only judge based on the first one or two loops (nominating ten hour long extensions is frowned upon, though quite explicitly not banned. No restrictions.). Other than that, I'd say everything from Napalm Death's two second long "You Suffer" to Genesis' incredibly bizarre and over 20 minute long "Supper's Ready" counts.



I'm not familiar with much, honestly, which is a large part of why I want to do this. Let's see...

I've mostly stuck with radio, greatest hits collections, and soundtracks. As such, even if it's an artist I like, there's usually many albums with songs I've never heard.

I grew up listening to an oldies station which originally went with popular songs from the 50s and 60s, so I have more nostalgia for music from that era than people would expect. Also a lot of 80s nostalgia ; while the 70s has a few great songs, I'm somehow less familiar with it than the decades around it.

My knowledge of songs released after 2000 borders on nonexistent, with the exception of two specific bands that I won't name to avoid corrupting the nominations.

Knowledge of non-pop or non-classic rock music is also very limited, with my only exposure to other genres coming from listening to other people's nominations in other music ranking topics. A very large reason I wanted to do this is because of my lack of exposure to different things and so I can hear things I'd likely never hear otherwise.

[That's not to say people shouldn't nominate popular songs. It's nice to have some familiar things to use as a baseline and the point of not having any restrictions is to not have restrictions.]

I made a point of listening to every nomination from the recent VGM tournament, so I have some familiarity with everything from there ; I wasn't around for past tournaments, so songs from those--even most of the retirees--are unfamiliar.

Thanks to our Mega Man Song Topic, I have a lot of knowledge of songs of the 10 numbered games from the Classic Series. I do not have much knowledge of the music from any of its spin-offs (including & Bass and V) or other series.

Other than that, I'm trying to avoid specifically naming favorite bands or albums, to avoid people just nominating what they already know I like... but if you really want, I can go into the specifics.
