And now to shatter any pretense of sanity, in which I discard a song for reasons not even relating to the song itself and have to take multiple posts to do so.

193:

Song Name: Everything's Just Wonderful
Song Origin: Lily Allen
Song Link: [redacted]
Nominator: Dragon66116 (14/15)

I'm not entirely sure where I'm going to rank this song. If I'm being honest, I rather like the song itself; if I'm being completely honest, I don't like Lily Allen and really want to put the song dead last because it's one of hers.

On the one hand, I'm supposed to be ranking songs, not the artists themselves. And if I spent enough time researching other artists, I could probably find equally valid reasons to hate them all. It's not the song's fault that it's easier to find negative news stories about Lily Allen.

On the other, she assaulted multiple photographers and wants to destroy the internet, and I warned you all that I wasn't even going to pretend to be objective. If I want to put this song into last place, that's my prerogative. I could even disqualify it and add one of the other songs mentioned in the nominations topic to replace it; one of Kateee's nominations that she sacrificed so azuarc could participate? 10-20-40 would probably get a decent score, though I've only listened to it once since it's not on the official list. Then there's the Civ 6 song and whatever NFUN briefly nominated before replacing it with that 9/11 song, I actually haven't listened to his removed song at all yet.

Can I give it two rankings? Have it somehow exist in last place and not-last-place simultaneously? Suppose not, that would mess up every other song's placement and splitting topics into multiple timelines never works out.

Well...let's divide this ranking in two. If you want me to talk about the song itself, click the first quote block ; if you want me to continue attacking her personally (why would you want that?), click the second block. Alternatively, you may click Topic List and escape before this topic gets any weirder.

Actually talk about the song...

This song actually does quite a few things that I like. I like artificial sounding music*, so I like the elevator music style portions. There's a self-deprecating humor running through the song, which is always worth a smirk or light chuckle.

It's also incredibly easy to understand while still being slightly clever. During the elevator music portions, she sarcastically says that things are alright--with the artificial music drawing attention to how fake and artificial she's being with the sarcastic lyrics. It's not particularly deep symbolism, but it's a pretty neat touch that elevates the song.

...I wasn't going for an elevator pun there, but I guess I'll leave it.

But no matter how hard I try to forget everything I've read about Lily lately, I don't know that I can. I really, really want to drop this song into last place. I'm not sure I'll know if I do or not until the topic goes up.

*I get into that whole "artificial sound" thing several times throughout the ranking. You may or may not have read those rankings before, depending on where this song eventually falls. *shrugs*
