Should have gone with one of the Space Jam mashups, honestly. Slam of the Northstar might have scored decently, between my intense nostalgia for Fist of the North Star & the fact that I hadn't heard the song until I started looking for Space Jam mashups to use as an example in this write-up.

The ordinary version of Space Jam seems kinda boring these days. It's not bad, obviously, but I've heard it hundreds of times. After Shut Up & Jam Gaiden, I added the song to all my mp3 players and playlists, out of fondness for the game and because the song wasn't like anything else I had at the time. Now, there are so many mashups, that if I ever want to hear the song then I'll pick one of those at random to put a new spin on it.

...also I never liked the Space Jam movie (or the terrible Space Jam game that was somehow more primitive and limited than Looney Tunes B-Ball) and Shut Up & Jam Gaiden nostalgia can only carry a song so far.

[FINAL NOTES: Seriously, a Playstation era sports game with only two teams? That was embarrassing, even by licensed game standards.

I've actually never seen the Fist of the North Star anime or read the manga, but somehow the games have managed to always be part of my life. Some of my earliest gaming memories are playing Black Belt on the Master System and I still go back to that game on a regular basis; I didn't know it at the time, obviously, but that was actually an edited version of a FotNS game and my earliest introduction the series.

A few years after that, I ran into a drugstore that rented Game Boy games. They actually had a copy of a Fist of the North Star fighting game; it was the first fighting game I ever played and my first experience with something that actually had the FotNS name.

And other stories too, blah blah blah, I really just wanted to think about how weird it was that there was a drug store that rented Game Boy games. That doesn't really feel like a thing, but I remember it quite clearly.]
