Song: Gamecube Startup Logo
Origin: Nintendo Gamecube

Nominator: Se7enthrust (4/10)

I never really cared about the Gamecube, so there's no nostalgia here. That probably helps its ranking, since if I did have a lot of nostalgia for it, it might have dropped back at the "block of songs I already liked" part of the list.

While it's only five seconds long, it's absolutely perfect for what it is. I can think of no better jingle to accompany the little startup animation, it's catchy, and it's unlike anything else on the list. That's enough to carry it further than I expected when I first saw the nomination.

And now to ramble about a different system startup, just because I want to:

It would have lost points for being something I already loved, but I was obsessed with the Sega CD BIOS when the system was new:

No idea why, but that song alone was enough to sell me on the system. I had to have a Sega CD, just so I could listen to this song. That was really stupid as the system had very few things worth playing, but I still enjoy the music. Someone actually converted the startup screen to a MUGEN stage and I still use it on a regular basis just for the song... though after over two decades of loving it, I'm not nearly as into it as I once was.

Not related to anything, but since I'm talking about Sega CDs, let's look at some hidden tracks that you could find by trying to play the games like music CDs. First, a message that scared me so much that I had trouble sleeping for days:

Of course, back then I had no idea what backmasking was, much less a way to reverse it to hear the hidden message. All I knew was that if you pushed the wrong buttons when turning that game on, someone would receive a call from hell as monstrous demons chant ominously. EVIL GAME! EVIL!!!!

And second, Sega's standard warning message, which is ridiculously awesome:

That distorted electric guitar... ohh, you have no idea how I wish this led into an entire song or even an entire album. Truthfully, I'm not sure what would have happened if you tried nominating Sega CD Warning--it's incredibly nostalgic and has A+++ instrumentation, but is incredibly short and not really a song, so I think I would have imploded.

...Perhaps we should be thankful you didn't nominate it then.

[FINAL NOTES: I think that covered everything I wanted to cover.]

[FINAL-ER NOTES: Between the arguments for this song coming in last place and getting a very high placement, I think I may have inadvertantly placed this song in a spot that pleases no one. </.<]
