There was no common ground between anything; Secret G didn't sound like the same genre as My Chemical Romance songs (at least, the one or two songs of theirs I'd heard from game soundtracks). Then you get into people arguing that SZA could be post hardcore if you changed the instruments and Wikipedia declaring everything to have Post Hardcore influences. Like the term comes up absolutely everywhere, to a point that it feels like it has no meaning. Does Number City sound like it has any connection to those other songs at all? Nope. Does Wikipedia feel the need to list Post Hardcore as one of the bands four main influences in the opening paragraph for what feels like no reason? Yep. I'm still not clear on what the genre is even hypothetically supposed to be, other than punk music.
