I mean, i get it, Season 1 of JJ wasn't really light either (though pretty sure there was some laughs in there)
Considering the backstory, it was pretty damn dark. After all, Purple Man raped Jess for a year and used his mind control to force her to murder Luke's ex -- and again, that was just BEFORE the show starts. You also have the girl who Purple Man does the same thing to before forcing her to kill her parents -- and stand trial for it -- and ultimately she kills herself so she can't be used as a bargaining chip. Multiple people become unwilling organ donors for Purple Man. Jeri hires Purple Man to kill her wife, with her new girlfriend winding up killing the wife instead and going to prison for it. And there's like a million other fucked up things Purple Man did. Honestly, DD3 and JJ1 are kinda on par in many ways ---
