Bebop is relaxing for anyone that hasn't watched and an important starting point to the Chill Trilogy (feat. Samurai Champloo and Michiko to Hatchin). Evangelion is alright. Similar character arc as Gundam, similar dangers as Ideon, that kinda thing. Definitely more interesting having experience in the genre, but also impossible to have discussion about. I.e., people either have seen the above and think Eva's a rip off, or they haven't and think it's the only mecha worth watching (unless you also mention Gurren Lagann...).
