yeah, i think daft punk is kind of like the orson welles of music, by which i mean that what they say about their own stuff should be taken with a grain of salt. in my view there absolutely is meaning to the video.
...that being said, i'm a pretty pretentious guy when it comes to movies and sometimes i might read too much into them. i even think there's some kind of meaning to un chien andalou, even though buuel and dal insisted that it's completely meaningless. (man, this reminds me of when i had an argument with muffin about the producers [the original movie]. he insisted that it's a comedy and nothing more, i insisted that there's more to it.)
Yeah, my knowledge of classic films and what not is...nonexistent. Pretty sure I've never seen anything with or by Orson Welles, so I mostly associate him with Maurice LaMarche's parody from The Critic:
