To speed up the ARTISTS section, I decided to throw some artist names into Spotify and listen to the first three suggested tracks. Not the best way to get the full experience of an artist, granted, but it's a chance to see what songs are actually being listened to and get a vague grasp of who the artist is.

The Mars Volta

...No.

"Cerpin sees giant dogs, and can hear their voices as they lead him somewhere. Above Cerpin is a surgeon, whose name is Dr. Wolfram Tarant. The Doctor has Dogs for arms."

.....No.

"Cerpin is now in the Eriatarka house of facial and muscular corrections. Cerpin starts to become angry at the Doctor, but before he can get out of control, the Doctor shows him his new form. Cerpin now has wings, his new form is called Moatilliatta - The last of the great Teraquetzals (Tera and Quetzal are both names for certain flying dinorsaurs, Pterodactyl and Quetzalcoatl)."

....

"The album is based on a book that Cedric Bixler-Zavala wrote about his friend Julio represented by the character Cerpin Taxt in the book. He was a drug addict, had an overdose, and went into a coma. When he got out of the coma he killed himself."

.......I'm just...just gonna go over here and not listen to this band any further now, thank you.

And how is every band on the planet supposed to be similar to THIS?!?

Spock's Beard

This band, on the other hand, is one that I actively want to hear more of! I actually wound up listening to all five of the songs listed as "popular" and actually don't have anything negative to say about any of them. Even a song like "What Becomes of Me" that reads like a suicide note is enjoyable because it seems like the band is great enough to get away with anything.

Not sure where to start listening to other songs by them, but I'll definitely get around to listening to more, eventually.

Oi Va Voi

Question: How did this band wind up on ZA'LIST to begin with? I don't dislike what I've heard of them, but they don't sound like any of the songs that were nominated, so I can't recall how their name would have even came up.

*checks*

Ah, their name came up in Thank You Scientist's comments. Their song was compared to this band, and Snarky Puppy, and The Mars Volta. I have no idea how any of those four bands can be compared to any of the others, but that's YouTube comments for you.

Band's alright; the songs feel a bit too slow and traditional for my tastes, but I have no qualms with the singer, the band, the lyrics, or anything really.

Moving along to the newly posted song:

Soft Machine - Hope For Happiness

Huh. This band kinda reminds me of "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band", oddly enough.

...well not that oddly, since I only heard of that band a couple days ago. With the aforementioned Classic Rock Station getting lots of play, I'm finding things that are new to me and "The Man in the Jar" was so bizarre that it left an impression.

Not entirely sure what kind of impression, honestly. It's weird. I obviously don't dislike it; I cared enough to track down the band, the name of the song, listened to it multiple times... but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I like it? I haven't decided.

This song is kinda like that.

Mr Lasastryke posted...
no idea what you'll think of this - let's see!

Good question. Let me know if you find the answer. *floats away aimlessly*
