the whole complaint against it is dumb
if you like videogames
you can support developers by using their interface, it's not a big deal

my only gripe is the shopping cart and it not having a big picture mode to use controllers with it

The primary complaint is that they're competing by throwing money at developers to make competitors' services worse, rather than making a competitive service of their own. As it stands now, the Epic Store wouldn't be up to par for an online marketplace if it were 2004, let alone 2019, and coercing gamers to use such an inferior service by holding games ransom behind exclusivity deals is naturally going to rub people the wrong way. There are also some very legitimate concerns about the privacy implications of Tencent's influence over the company, as well as a number of security concerns.

Conceptually, I welcome some real competition for Steam. Their effective near-monopoly on the PC market has led to them becoming complacent, which shows in the abject lack of quality control they've been exercising over their library lately. In a lot of ways, Epic has the potential to offer that, given their improved revenue share and the fact that developers don't have to share a New Releases section with Rape Day. It'd just be nice if they were a little less anti-consumer about it. Healthy competition is a matter of having a better product, not having more capital and being able to absorb more losses while starving out competitors.
