Oddly enough Korean people or older ones burn the ever loving shit out of meat when they cook it so this is fitting. My mother in law makes sure whatever shes cooking is drier than ghandis flipflops.

my wife likes her steaks well done

my in laws saw her well done steak the other night and expressed concern at the slight pinkness inside

meanwhile i eat my shit slightly rarer than usual when they visit just for their reactions

Every American boomer (Including the president iirc) I know also loves well done steak I think it's pretty common among older people in a lot of places. American boomers also seem even afraid of eating raw fish, at least Korean people aren't shy about that!

My in laws happen to be over so I asked my MIL to see what kind of answers I'd get. This is a loose translation as her English isnt bad but it comes out in what we call Konglish (mixture of English and korean).

1. Olden days in south korea there were no rules or regulations for mest handling and processing so it cooking the hell out of meat was due to fear

2. They do enjoy raw stuff like fish because anything from the ocean was seen as pure and clean...

3. Also they dont ever char anything generally unless its ssamgyupsol. If the dish like say bulgogi is marinated then having any char on it is a sign of poor cooking skills and other Korean wives will tell their husbands and church folk you can cook *facepalm*
