I'd rather avoid places like Boron where my situation would only get worse. lol... Also, I vaguely recall the cheaper areas down here requiring a car to get anywhere, including work. At least fifteen years ago it was the case where people moved to this desert for low housing costs, and spent those savings or more on car-related payments to get to and from their places of employment.

All the more reason for me to get out of SoCal, this time for good. (I had lived in Salt Lake City for a couple years where it was nice)

The AV, yes.

based on the cities mentioned, and the cost, they seemed the likely two candidates in LA. given your residing in the AV, you've acclimated to Arizona.

short of emergencies, doubtful their citizens regularly venture outside, in time you could buy a junker car. either way, best of luck.
