I mean I think you arent quite getting it.

For the casual player this is whatever. But for your shiny hunters, for your people who have plugged tons of hours into breeding competitive teams and collecting all the set pieces that make that possible this is a real body blow.

Its mind boggling to me that they would do this while still trying to push Pokemon as an esport.

To be fair, this changes absolutely nothing for shiny hunters since you couldn't shiny hunt for Pokemon that weren't in the region dex, anyway.

And as for the esport comment, things like fighting games never keep the same rosters, FPS games often don't keep the same guns, and so on, so esport players had to adapt to things like that in pretty much every game but Pokemon before this, anyway, so it's not really ruining anything there, either.

It's a blow to people that like to use teams of random old Pokemon, and a blow to casual battlers that refuse to change their teams up, and so on.

Basically, it's one big "that sucks" and "that's stupid," but I wouldn't say it's actively ruining anything for competitive battlers or shiny hunters since not much really changes for them. The former has to adapt a little bit if some of their premade team can't be transferred over, but that's kinda expected, anyway, as the metagame changes. And nothing changes about shiny hunting.
