I think I've got the basic concept of Xyz down

Yeah, Xyz are fairly simple, arguably simpler than Synchros because you don't need a specific kind of monster like how Synchros need Tuners.

https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Xyz_Monster
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Xyz_Summon

Two (or more) monsters of the same level are used as materials for the Xyz summon, and sometimes there's also a type or attribute requirement too. The overlay materials stay under the Xyz monster (it leads to some weird rulings situations regarding whether they're considered "on the field" or not, but that's for another time) and those materials are essentially used as "ammo" to use the Xyz monster's effects. Once you detach a material to use the Xyz monster's effects, it goes to the graveyard. Don't forget that Xyz monsters have ranks instead of levels, so they can't be used as material for a Ritual or Synchro summon, and any card that has anything to do with levels (like Gravity Bind) has no effect on them.

Pendulum is beyond me atm.

Yeah, those were annoying for me to learn too. I had to get my ass beat by them a few times before they sunk in.

https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Pendulum_Monster
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Pendulum_Summon
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Pendulum_Scale

Pendulum monsters can be played either as a monster like any other OR as a continuous spell in one of the Pendulum zones. They often have different effects depending on which way you play them. Either way, Pendulum monsters that would go from the field to the graveyard go to the top of the extra deck (face-up) instead of to the graveyard. Finally, once you have a Pendulum monster in both of those zones, you set the Scale and can then perform a Pendulum summon.

Depending on the scale numbers on each side, your one Pendulum summon per turn can summon any monsters from your hand or any Pendulum monsters from your extra deck whose levels are between, but not equal to, the two scale numbers. For example, if you have a Pendulum scale of 2 on one side and 7 on the other, you can special summon appropriate monsters anywhere from level 3 to level 6. They're all summoned at the same time, so cards that trigger upon a summon that negate the summon (like Solemn Warning) or destroy the monsters (like Bottomless Trap Hole) would hit all of them at once. It's a very high-risk-high-reward kind of play style.

Pendulum decks were generally not very good on their own, but using Pendulum summons to accumulate material for Synchro/Xyz summons was a popular tactic around this time. Some high-level decks could often do all three types of summons in a single turn. However, many high-level decks had a better engine and didn't bother with Pendulums at all.

I didn't even know about Links <_<

They're the new monster/summon that was introduced in Yu-gi-oh VRAINS, and with them came a huge rules overhaul. It's nothing you need to know right now, since Legacy of the Duelist came out years before VRAINS ever existed, but if you get the upcoming sequel game (or decide to start playing the game IRL for some reason, but please don't do that because it's way too expensive) you'll need to learn about them too. I know a bit about them because I've been watching VRAINS as it airs, but I've never played a game with them myself, so I can't say that what I know is 100% correct.

If you have any more questions or need any more clarification about the pre-Link stuff though, feel free to ask me.
