As we slowly exit the "mildly amusing" phase of the rankings, we will now see scenes that are flawed but maybe have one or two things it particularly excels at. This Dune clip is the perfect example to kick things off. The special effects are particularly on point here, and Lynch commands the scene with a hard tension that slowly and surely ratchets up to extreme levels. The sandworm bursting out from the sand is scary and incredible, and though it does not grace the screen for long, your imagination makes you feel like you've witnessed something massive and epic in scale. What doesn't really work as well is some honestly drywall performances here, and a very cheap looking ship set. It's reminiscent of Star Trek TOS, which I can enjoy at points, but I'm not always in the mood for. Though the tension with camera work and music is done well, the acting actually drags the pace down for me and nearly runs the risk of making this scene kind of dull. It hangs on for the climax however, and that one sandworm scene makes it all worth it.

Listen, suffering is a fact of life. Either you learn how to deal with that or you go under.
