Pokemon is enhanced by understanding it, but you can still have fun even if you only understand every other word and have to crack open the jisho every time you talk to someone. Hell, a person who can play any Ace Attorney game in their non-dominant language while only having trouble in the same places they would in their native language, and while enjoying the banter and getting most of the jokes, is certainly to the point where hard study is no longer the most efficient means of getting better.
