It's not schadenfreude exactly, or is it?

Funny enough I learned that word during the 2014 World Cup when Germany tore Brazil a new one.

Thinking about that game, at some point I was "This game is over, might as well stop beating the dead horse" but it eventually passed the threshold into "We might as well keep going and see how bad of a slaughter this can get." All this being said, I thought there is some official ruling in some/all sports where at some point the officials will end it if it is obvious the other team cannot recover and win?
