I own a motorcycle and have only ever had motorcycles. Never drove a car in my life. Never been in a collision. Went down once pretty hard in the rain when I was a newb and didn't really know how to ride in heavy rain but nothing too bad happened to me. Just a broken wrist. I'm 35 now so it's been quite a few miles.

You can't even make the 'git gud' argument because you're still at the mercy of everyone driving around you.

"Getting good" is actually a pretty huge deal when it comes to riding motorcycles. A lot of the dangers from riding are due to being an idiot. Iirc like 30% of motorcycle fatalities happen when the rider is intoxicated. That is a huge percentage and that is easily fixed by not being a scumbag idiot. Even that aside, using some damn sense goes a long way. I've seen countless fucking morons on motorcycles in my day. It's an odd thing to say from a lifelong motorcycle rider but it really is an idiots hobby. You just see so many dumbass motorcycle riders out there.

Typical story. Once I was at a Walgreens getting whatever and as was going to leave I noticed another guy on a motorcycle in the same parking lot. Now this dude clearly had some insecurity issues and was like revving his engage and shit trying to show me up. I just think like "whatever" and get ready to leave. This guy then takes off out of his parking space at an absurd speed(for a parking lot) and he damn near T-bones a car that was pulling in. All that to show off to me. A guy that didn't know him and who did not give a single solitary fuck about him or his motorcycle.

That's just one of countless stories of running into idiot motorcycle riders. So many of them would do a lot better if they did indeed "git gud". To be honest, I get more paranoid around motorcycles then cars because if a car does something dumb around me it's normally because they don't see me and I can drive in a way to minimize that risk. But when motorcycles do something dumb around me it's normally because they intentionally do it because they're fucking pieces of shit. Well, that's my experience in California anyway. Maybe other areas of the country/world have it better.
