If we're going with the notion that Sephiroth was entirely in control and weak minded we have to look at the other characters, whether they're liked or not. I had to look up what the point of Genesis was and it amounted to stopping the degradation of those with Jenova cells. It's interesting how the one who directly benefits from Genesis, Sephiroth, and Weiss's actions is Jenova. Not only that but Jenova is referred to as a parasite. What do parasites do?
