...but as someone pointed out, they are quickly replaced, and if it is a bot, the AI is very capable.

I haven't played in about a year, but the bots being capable is only true at the beginner level of play. You're at a serious handicap if you're playing with a bot otherwise. Playing unranked in a standard match then becomes about playing defensively/conservatively until a player hopefully joins midmatch to replace the bot. If you're playing 1v3 humans, then you're screwed unless the other team sucks.

No one has a reason to throw the game in unranked when there is no punishment for leaving.

I'm saying this as someone who used to play a lot of Rocket League, but I definitely saw a lot of instances of people in unranked throwing a fit and deciding to play for the other team. But again, I played a lot of Rocket League, so %-wise, it probably was a pretty low amount, and the many instances I saw it happen just stick out to me.

There are a lot of players who are absolutely terrible that will trash-talk their teammates in chat becase they're either completely incompetent and don't understand the game and what they're talking about, or they immediately whine any time their teammate makes one mistake while being completely oblivious to the dozen or more mistakes they've made in the current match.

In my experience, while they very likely will just outright leave, there was always a chance said people would then start playing for the other team.
